People to People
I am a firm believer in Crowdsourcing and The Long Tail, that’s why I am doing my tiny bit in the advancement of these fields.
The Internet is not just about digital content and connectivity because beyond that, it removes geographical barriers, rendering national borders and nationality less significant. (We all stay on planet Earth). It is the “medium” for the foundation of a true global economy, where market mechanisms are determined by the “Free Market” a.k.a Crowdsourcing, rather than trade unions, and self serving institutions, because the World Wide Web holds no prejudices.
This can be said to be the original vision of the World Wide Web, but somewhere along the line, we got caught up in the digitization of content and forgot about the “People”. Fortunately, the Web 2.0 development reminded us about the important of the “human touch”, and people started looking at what the Web stands for from a different perspective.
In my opinion, specialist websites such as auctions and classifieds are but a manifestation of the original promise, in which goods and services are allowed to move freely, away from the restrictive mechanisms placed by capitalist. So lets us play a part in the next natural step of capitalism revolution, in which individuals can affect the market dynamics by leveraging on People to People Services.
People to People services is anchored on two ideology:
The individual with localize knowledge knows best.
Every individual have something to offer, which is of value to another person.
So what can I offer? I am residing in Singapore, and we are lucky to be blessed with a stable currency, strong education system, and most importantly, access to all the latest technology and services available in the marketplace. So if there’s anything you need which can be better served in Singapore, engage ME!
A simple illustration is technology products. Computer peripherals are more competitively priced in Singapore than in the US, Malaysia, Thailand etc. However in the U.S, brand names such as Coach, DKNY, Calvin Klein and Timberland enjoy a similar price advantage, not to mention their access to the latest cutting edge technology. Other examples includes the hugely popular ASUS Eee PC, which are always first launched in Taiwan, China with their “cheap” digital products, and the Japanese with their Wii, the list goes on.
Have you also ever thought of why should you pay ridiculous prices for a football ticket in major leagues such as the La Liga, EPL, and Serie A through web resellers when the ticket can be bought locally at a fraction of the price. The examples can go on and on, but the fact is market mechanism have created these inefficiencies, but previously we can do noting about such situations due to geographical and language barriers. However with the proliferation of the Web and the infrastructure in place, why then should we allow profiteering from parallel importers and major corporations due to the market inefficiencies.
So here is what I am offering:
Location: Singapore
If you have doubts about what you can offer, DON’T!. Remember that your unique geographical location and localization is a competitive advantage in itself. So why not have a open mind and see what opportunities might be in store for you.
An important factor in considering whether to buy from overseas is shipping charges. Speedpost offered by SingPost is recommended, and you can check out the estimated shipping charges here.
I have decided to list out some resources which you might be interested to check out.
