WinFF - Video Conversion Made Easy
WinFF is a GUI for the command line video converter, FFMPEG. It will convert almost any video file that FFmpeg will convert. WinFF does multiple files in multiple formats at one time. You can for example convert mpeg’s, flv’s, and mov’s, all into avi’s all at once. WinFF is available for Windows 95, 98 , ME, NT, XP, VISTA, and Debian, Ubuntu, Redhat based GNU/Linux distributions.
Have a video that doesn’t play on the office PC? Want to bring your videos on your PSP or Ipod? Then it can’t get any easier with WinFF.
Getting Started
First you “Add”.
Select what you want to convert.
This is where you determine the format of your output, either by format or type of device.
Within the format you have chose, there are sub-options for you to determine the output format.
Once everything is ready, determine the “Output Folder”.
Chose your output location and click on “OK”.
Finally, hit the “Convert” button and you are on your way!
You will see this “black box” pop up. DO NOT CLOSE IT. Just wait until you see the message at the bottom, which goes something along the line of “Press any key to exit”.
Conclusion
The screenshots says it all. Just take note that video encoding takes time, and if you’re encoding a full movie, expect to wait at least the full duration of the show. Just to add, the safest format to convert to is AVI, MS Compatible. By choosing this format, your video will be playable on 99% of the PCs. Otherwise, sticking to the device specific should be no issue, noting that 16:9 is widescreen, and 4:3 is for “square” video.
It is not the most full featured video encoders I know of, but it’s the simplest and possesses an impressive feature set to meet most needs for the price of $FREE. If you’re looking for a more robust solution, try Auto MKV or Handbrake.
